Minnesota Football Rivalry Logos
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are involved in some of the most historic college football rivalries with Wisconsin, Iowa, and Michigan. Each of these rivalries also have some of the most unique and historic trophies in college football with Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the Floyd of Rosedale, and the Little Brown Jug. The Minnesota-Wisconsin game is the most-played rivalry game in the FBS at 135 games and has been played for 119 straight years. Minnesota-Iowa is another one of the most-played college football matchups with 119 total games. The Little Brown Jug is the oldest continually exchanged trophy in the FBS, with the trophy originating in 1903.
Many of college football’s biggest rivalry games now have their own event logos and branding, and all 3 of the Minnesota rivalry games lack any widely used branding. I thought this would be a fun opportunity to visually explore the history of these games as well as work with some event logos. The goal of this project was to make a primary logo for each event, alongside team specific logos for each game.
